Skywatch Friday - Clouds Of Promise....

Around these parts, we get a little excited as well as apprehensive when we see clouds like these, rolling in.

They hold the promise of rain, which is something that doesn't happen very often, hence the excitement !

Unfortunately, they also hold the promise of dry lightening, which is what often accompanies clouds like these. Thousands of wildfires are sparked every year, in Nevada, by lightening strikes, so hence the feeling of apprehension..

I love looking at the clouds though ... they break the monotony of days of nothing but clear, blue skies..

I can see a little dog lying down, in this one. His head is a bit blurred by a wisp of dark cloud..

In this one, he seems to have turned around and is now prancing on his hind feet. You can make him out to the right.

Maybe he's begging the cloud gods for some rain ?? :-)

They started to roll in over the mountains, but unfortunately, came to nothing. The sky was pretty grey to the back of us, and there were a few lightening strikes, (hopefully I caught one on my 35mm SLR), in the distance. No reports of fires though, thank goodness !

So why am I posting a photo of the road, you may well ask?

When I was downloading these photos, from my camera to my computer, I was once again reminded of what can happen, when you hand an 8yr old your camera to hold, while you frantically rummage through your bag for your ringing phone..

Why she felt the urge to take a photo of the street, is something that I don't think even she can answer, however, at least this time it wasn't of my rear end !! :-)

Have a great weekend !

Go to SKYWATCH for views of the sky from all over the world !

  3. Karen,
thank you for posting this. What a great idea to comment the shapes! If we still see things in coulds, it means we have not curbed the child within. And this is a good thing. A very good thing!

Happy skywatch friday and have a wonderful relaxing fun-filled weekend.

    Ciao

  4. I'm sure your rear end would elicit more comments here than a road, but oh well, she'll learn to point and shoot where it matters soon enough.

Love your clouds. Oh I don't wanna know what dry lightning is. I'm afraid of lightning and thunder.

  5. That´s funny - you want rain and we always want the sun to shine :)
We have been lucky though - some rain and some sunshine - it's very green now.

  8. Fun cloud photos for Sky Watch Friday, I live in a similar area with nothing but blue skies most every day, clouds do add that little bit of interest to the horizon. Thanks for sharing with Sky Watch Friday, as for the 8 year old - teach them to point at the sky next time.

  10. You certainly have a budding photographer there with that superb abstract shot LOL! Great clouds, to me the little dog in the first seems to be running full tilt. We too hope for rain with every passing cloud.

  13. It's nice to conclude the blog with a funny note. And glad you included the achievement of your young kid.

In as far as the clouds are concerned, yes, I am like that too...I watched not only the mere skies, I do look for some abstract objects that can be formed by them.

As to the wildfires? We have the same problem here down under especially because our forests are mostly Eucalyptus that are higly alcohol content.

Love your entry and you have cutie kiddos too... Happy mothering.

  14. I really hope you get some rain out of those clouds to keep the lightning fire potential at bay. You're right low relative humudity can be dangerous in thunderstorm season.

    Great shots!

  23. Your clouds are so dramatic and I see some whites up in the mountains. We are missing some rainfall here too. The other day, there were two simultaneous brush fires.

  26. Our sky very often has the same colour as that road, so it might be called highly relevant...

  37. Due to some busy times only now i get to taking a look at other SWF participants. I also like clouds: they give you a lot more variety to take pictures of than clear blue skies (and a chance to use your imagination)
