My World Tuesday - Virginia Lake, Reno, NV

One of my favourite places to go in Reno, other than the Truckee River, is Virginia Lake.

I'm very lucky in that it is only about 10 minute walk from my house.... so I spend a lot of time there :-)

These were all from a walk I took around it, last Saturday morning...

(Click on any photo to enlarge)

This man found a peaceful spot to practice is guitar playing. I stopped and listened to him for a minute or so ...

Looking across the lake to the Grand Sierra Resort. The sky is a deep blue and cloudless, which heralded a very hot day. I think it ended up in the mid 90's, which is hot for Spring.

There is a small, affordable housing development, that borders one side of the lake. The houses are quite nice, resembling the row houses, that can be seen in parts of San Francisco, etc.

There are black spots all over the sky in this photo. They're not spots on my lens, but little black, flying insects. I was standing in a cloud of them as I took the photo ! :-)

Now, go to MY WORLD TUESDAY where people from all over our globe , show off their little corner of the world !

  4. In all the years I have been driving to Reno, I haven't seen anything past the casinos. I was just telling my husband that there should/must be more to Reno than the casinos that would interest us.

    Thanks for this post.

  11. Karen: I like the reflection of the trees in the water on the last picture. Is there any desert at all like this in New Zealand? I imagine you are used to green meadows, forests and sheep!

  15. Beautiful lake. Is this the film camera? I was a photographer for 20 years - spent half my life in the darkroom. Now I've discovered digital photography and I think it's superior... and cheaper. I wouldn't futz with film, but get a digital camera with a good lens - it's sooo much fun.

  19. I'm more familiar with other parts of Nevada, and have never (!!!) been to Reno. That's an oversight, I'm sure! So it's fun to see your pix and learn about it. Thansk for visiting my jellyfish. The letters on the bottom say its a "hula hoop" jellyfish, but I can't find a real one online, so who knows? I took the photo and then realized it looked like it was loitering. Too fun.

  23. Hi Karen,
Is this the lake right along I 80? We passed by Reno 2X in the last 2 weeks on our way to CA. It was beautiful weather in your part of the world. I was surprised at how little snow remains in the Sierras.

  26. A beautiful place, your lucky to have it all so close to home. I like the houses on the lake shore, they will have a lovely view so I am surprised they are affordable housing, maybe all those wee insects put people off buying there.
