Skywatch Friday - Idlewild Lake

These were taken at Idlewild Park lake, on Tuesday, when the hubby and I went for a walk along the Truckee River. The first one is mine, taken with my film SLR. The second is taken by my husband with his point and shoot digital.

This was my first outing with the used lens I just bought for my OM-G. I think I am going to like it, once I figure it out !! I really messed up my depth of field and my aperture setting on this one. Plus I also had my ASA set to 200 film, when I was using 400 film. I had to play around with my photo editor as the original was really washed out.

I do like the reflections of the sky and trees in the water though and the details in the trees on the bank. This SLR film stuff is all a learning curve for me :-)

This photo of the hubby's shows more what the colour of the sky should have looked like in mine. I really like the reflections in this one as well..

Go to SKYWATCH for views of the sky from all over the world !

PS ..If you have time, I'd appreciate it if you could visit this post on my blog and say a hello to my young grandson, Xavier. He's getting an award at his school assembly, back in New Zealand, this morning. I'm sure he would be thrilled to have people from all over the world saying 'Hi'. :-)

Lovely reflections. Yes, SLR does take a bit of getting used to. I really recommend books by Bryan Peterson - helped me enormously and such beautiful examples of his work.

I admire you for working in film. I'm afraid I would waste way too much film trying to get good. ;-)

Those photos were wonderful. If I had to pick, I'd say the first one is my favourite, maybe because the back shore was nearer. It felt more intimate.

I actually like upper one better. It has kinda watercolorish/pastelish shades. Don't worry about your f-stops, both lens nor film, you'll get used to those. Negative films are elastic like bubblegum, it tolarates a lot. I used to shoot, at least, 1 f-stop over with negative film, gives you more intens negative. You get more details in it like that. You can allways correct any misshabs at your pc/mac. Negative scanner is advised. :) Happy SWF!

Lovely Skywatch - I haven't shot much SLR film myself, but I appreciate those who do.

And belated congraulations to Xavier.

Great pictures. I have a really good 35mm camera but haven't used it in several years. It still takes better photos than the digital cameras (I'm on my 4th digital camera) but buying film, having it developed, etc. seems like so much trouble to me now. I've always loved photography since I was 17 and bought my first camera - a Brownie Hawkeye.

So glad I found your post. As far as I am concerned, you live in God's country. I have been to the Reno area any number of times, and love, love it. You have to see all the beauty around that area, to really appreciate it. Thanks for visiting my post.

What a difference in the shots. Even with the digital camera it's a learning curve. I'm still playing with and learning all of the functions of mine so that I don't miss a lot of shots. I'm still learning. I miss my old film camera but I sure don't miss the developing fees. :-)

I'll send up a prayer for your husband. It can be a soul destroying journey but I kept remembering the Lord is my shepherd I shall not want. The Lord shall supply all my needs and He did. Stay strong in faith and God bless you both.

Very pretty work. With all your complaining about settings, etc, it still looks like a real picture. Much better than most of the digitals, a lot better than mine.
I know you are proud of Xavier. He is starting our early with the awards.

coincidence - I've just been posting about the same thing. I'm sure we'll get there. And your shot actually looks rather lovely and delicate.

Your photo reminds me of something - an old photo, a picnic, and what others have said - a painting, hmm, a little like Monet, I think. Don't get too smart. You're already there!
