It was my day for volunteering, in T's 1st grade class, this morning. As normal, I biked over to her place and picked her up.
As we were walking to school, this conversation took place...
T ... 'Nana, did you know that D wrote in his notebook that he wanted to have the s word with C ?' D is T's 7yr old cousin and C is his classmate.
Me, going where angels fear to tread .. 'Ummm, what s word'?
T ... 'You know, the one that starts with s and ends with x.'
Me .. 'Oh, that word. Hmmm. So, are you looking forward to the class field trip tomorrow and do you want to help me push my bike?'
Cheers

Distraction. Always go with distraction.
Agreed. "LOOK AT THAT SHINY THING OVER THERE!"
Ha ha, we had a similar conversation with Griffin and Brylee just the other day... they even said "sex"... when asked what "sex" meant they said "OH kissing and being your boyfriend/girlfriend".. they had no idea really! Kids will snigger and talk at school.... it's just normal.
Oh and I believe that if a kid asked a direct question... you answer it, no matter how 'curly' it is... you don't have to go into detail... depends on the kids age. We have had no problems raising our kids and answering their questions! It's fun.
We had a similar instance when our then 6 yr old grandson told us that one of his friends was "sexing it with a girl". Then another time he asked his grandad if he knew there was "an F word". Normal I think, the things they pick them up from school.
Thats amazing. I probably would have broke wind and began to laugh to change the subject.
That would have been my response as well!
