Skywatch Friday - The Changing Sky

Our skies, here in Northern Nevada, have been interesting the last couple of days...

The mornings have been starting out with brilliant blue skies, and a few wisps of white clouds..

By the afternoon, the thunderclouds have rolled in and the heavens have opened..

This particular downpour was preceded by a sound on the roof like an approaching freight train and then the noise of a couple of hundred young voices screaming in unison, as they fled the playground...

Not much sympathy from us adults ...'Oh for heavens sake, stop the drama ! The rain isn't going to make you melt!' :-)

The following morning, the puddles make for interesting photo opportunities...

It's made reading blogs a bit of a challenge, as we have had the computer of a bit due to the lightening strikes..

Have a great weekend, all !!

Go to SKYWATCH for views of the sky from all over the world !

Our weather has been a lot like that too. Sunny mornings, cloudy afternoons, and most likely at least a little rain, or wind today. Love the puddlequin reflection.

Reassuring to see some bright blue sky, even if it rained later. There's always tomorrow morning!

I'm glad I stumbled on your blog, for several reasons. One is that my grandmother's side of the family became Nevadans after leaving Canada. My great aunt even wrote a book on Nevada's governors. I love this part of the country (having been born down 395 in Lone Pine, Calif.), and enjoy seeing other people love it, too.

If you make it down to the Owens Valley, you might see some similarity with some of the landscapes in LOTR. I've often thought that moving to New Zealand would be like moving home.

Thanks for the fun blog and the pictures that make me homesick.

Hi Karen, thank you for your visit and comment.SWF.
I am so pleased that you googled Asperatus.
I was bowledover by the clouds shown in the paper.
Love your skies sunny and rain filled. My answer when out in the rain is I do not shrink.
Love the reflections in your last picture, a canvas every where.
Have a good weekend.

Kia Ora,

Thank you for visiting my site. Have you been in US long?

Your film camera, what kind is it? My friend once remarked that our kids would have no idea what negatives are. I won't go back to a camera that I need to go to the chemist to develop. My digital camera is just great when I can take as many or as few photos and down load then.

Your blue building in the rain, is it a school building? Looks like one here. We don't like the rain bell at play time or lunch. The students get so restless they can't get out to play.

Cheers,

Ann :) a kiwi by choice.

I like the way you commented Check or tick. When I was in Canada, i couldn't get used to period when I have been taught it was full stop.

Great photo of the falling rain, and the reflections in a puddle, both very good. And yes we humans don't melt, but we just don't like being rained upon.

Art starts with refining the ability to see. You are good at seeing, and you are so good at capturing the moment!

The weather has been a lot of the same in Florida. The running joke is 'if it's raining, just wait 10 minutes.'

I really like the puddle shot, the reflection is so clear.

It's really weird how one moment the sky is all beautiful and next thing the storm clouds roll in and BOOM, thunder and lightning and rain!
I love that reflection in the puddle... that's really neat.

I really like the way you have captured the rain pouring down, that you are able to see the single drops.

Thank you for welcoming me to Skywatch! :)

Great shots. I really like that reflection. Interesting how the weather is in different places. Here it's the opposite. We get the "June gloom" - cloudy and overcast in the morning, looking like it could rain and then it clears up and gets hot later in the day.

Beautiful blue sky and green trees in the first picture. I really love the rainy picture and puddle picture too, they are awesome!
