Camera Critters - Ducks, Ducks, More Ducks & A Goose :-)

Camera Critters

This week, we are out of the desert and into the water... I took these during a walk around the lake, late in the afternoon, last Monday.

Never fails to amaze me, how many different shadings I can see on the ducks at our local lake.

(Click on any photo to enlarge)

This little one had some interesting brown markings on it's head ..

This young lady paddled along beside me, around half the lake. She was obviously hoping that I had food in the pockets of my camera vest..

I loved this black and white duck....

These three had me amused for awhile.

The drake beside his mate, had one eye on me and the other on the drake behind him, who was valiantly trying to attract the attention of the female.

Every time he swam towards the pair, the other drake would drive him off with wings flapping and beak outstretched. Quite funny to watch..

Another one of my camp followers, a goose this time, who was hoping for a handout. He even came up out of the water at one point and plodded along behind me. :-)

Now go to CAMERA CRITTERS and join in the fun.

Ducks are the daftest and funniest of animals! I know what you mean about the colour variations - there are times when I see unusual ducks and think they're something rare - but when I get closer, they're always just mallards!

Great photos. I always wonder if the unusually coloured mallards will find a mate (but obciously at least some of them do).

Great shots! That's great that you can see such a variety of birds all in one place.

Thanks for sharing

Wonderful shots. The water is so clear, too!

Oooh, I like the black and white one. The comment about the mallards made me smiile. We have had a pair here every spring. I always feel badly for the drake for having to chase off the competition repeatedly. Sheesh!

Great to see another Kiwi blogger on camera critters and to see you enjoying your hobby. My only tip is using a digital camera you can take unlimited pictures and experiment for free. Then pick your faves. Great pics.

Beautiful ducks, and the last one is a Canada goose. In the Netherlands we have the mallard in abundance and also the Muscovi duck, though it's not indigenous.
Thanks for your visit to my snake.

Superior Snaps, all! We have the same drake and his mate come back to our local creek every year. At least I think they're the same couple...or at least hope they are. A much more romantic story that way, huh? BTW, make sure to stop by my Silly Sunday Sweepstakes today...I've got a Big Fish Tale to tell!

Nice series of shots. I'm always taking photos of ducks and geese but so rarely post any of them. There's a gray one at the lake by me that always catches my attention.
